Mango Tree ❤

Date of visit: April 2014

Mango Tree has been on my go-to list for quite some time now and I can finally say I have been here! I reserved a table via Toptable an hour beforehand and took advantage of their 50% discount which includes 1 starter and 1 main. I was running a little late and just after my reservation they promptly called me. I arrived and was nicely asked if I'd like to leave my coat at the front.

Their menu had a wide variety of choices ranging from some specials.

Barbecued pork with cucumber and nam jim jaew sauce - When it first came my first impression of the meat was as if it looked like doner meat, the texture looked processed. Texture of the pork also tasted a little rubbery (kebab doner texture).
Prawn spring rolls with shitake mushrooms with sweet chilli sauce. - Spring rolls tasted nice as the whole prawn was in the spring roll. But overall, pretty average spring roll.

Chicken pad thai - They had so much on the menu but I opted for something very simple as it was my brunch, was very tempted to go for the curry. Nothing bad about the pad thai, not too oily, also pretty average in my opinion.

Caramelised banana and coconut pudding with coconut ice cream - This tasted very different but after a few bites it did get a little sickening as it is heavy on the stomach. The taste reminded very much like plantain which they could have used?

Mango and coconut rice putting with coconut sauce - This tasted amazing and I had my heart set on this since I saw this on the menu. The combination of the two complimented each other very well. If I came back it would be for this dessert.

I think Mango Tree lives up to their reputation as they have several branches world wide. Their food is pretty standard as I have been to other Thai restaurants which weren't as dear. As we got a discount on the food, with drinks and desserts it still came up to £60.00 for two people for brunch. I would probably come again but not without the discount promotion as I don't think it's worth it. The restaurant's ambience is nice, there were probably only one other sitting so it was nice and quiet.
