Bumpkin Stratford - A taste of British... ♥

Date of visit - October 2011

At work we decided to go for leaving drinks since we most of us are moving to different stores, thank god  since its so quiet and competitive at work anyways. We got free meal and free drinks, didn't have a limit either cause the creative director made a bet with the executive director and whoever lost had to pay for the meal... anyways who cares I want a free meal and beast out so woohoo to that.

So we went Bumpkin in Stratford, never been there but heard a few raves about it, like it's better than the Jamie Oliver restaurant across the street. I felt like a mega beast cos everyone ordered a main a a dessert and I came out with 2 starters, main and dessert, what can I say, I like to eat. Bumpkin provides a classic British menu from fish and chips, baked pies and steak.. All the ingredients they use are from British farms as well.

2 Maldon Rock Oysters for me me me me

Stuffed baked Portobello mushroom with hazlenuts and breadcrumbs and topped with mature Cheddar cheese, I actually ordered this so everyone could share, little did I know, it was just 1 big mushroom. This was really yummy but still tho £6.95 for ONE mushroom??

Slow roasted Dingley Dell pork belly with Savoy cabbage and creamed celeriac and apple, I couldn't choose between this or duck or salmon lol! I actually wanted to order all 3 just to try it but, I would like a mega fat ass pig if I did. Cause all my colleagues were shocked the amount I ordered, I said it goes to my ass and stomach lol. This was yummy in the beginning but felt bit sick half way eating cause I felt something slimey in my mouth which is the fat, I nearly wanted to puke. And I should have ordered chips with this but didn't know how much veg will come with this.

Apple crumble with home made custard. SHIT, this is good, I love my apple crumble with a lot of crumble and custard.. and if there was more of both it would have been perfect. I also tried the sticky toffee which was very nice, probably order that if I ever go again.

Food 4/5

Price 2/5

Atmosphere 5/5

Staff 4/5

Overall food was nice but tbh not every student can afford this type of meal especially if you pig out like me ahhaha cos the portions are about medium size. Atmosphere was nice, I love restaurants that have cream in their lavatories, only cos I'm too lazy to apply cream on after. Staff were nice but they didn't get full stars cos when the bill came they forgot to give us discount, as the managers know each other, something like that.. but still!!

Would I go there again? YEP!

Edit: I would not go again as I got food poisoning from them due to the oysters. Told them about it and they would not believe it was them. Extremely disappointed!
